Collio Construction

After Just Chillin, I got busy. Collio didn’t disappear; I just hadn’t got around to writing up the construction. Now that it’s come together, here’s the bit I actually wanted to share: the relief of seeing it all fit.

The satisfying part
I was genuinely relieved that everything came together perfectly. You can have a plan in your head, but there’s still that moment during assembly when you find out whether the pieces work together in practice. This time, they did.
That might not sound like much of a construction story. I’ll take it. A build doesn’t need a last-minute rescue to be worth writing about, and I’m not going to pretend there was one just to make the ending more dramatic.
Keeping the noise down
For the fan, I bought a Noctua NF-S12B redux-1200 PWM, High Performance Cooling Fan, 4-Pin, 1200 RPM (120mm, Grey). I also bought Noctua NA-SAVP1 PC Fan Accent Anti-Vibration Pads to reduce noise. If I’m putting a fan in something I’ve built, I’d rather think about vibration during construction than wish I had afterwards.
I’m not claiming a measured noise reduction here. The pads were a choice aimed at keeping things quieter, not a before-and-after test. The part I can say without qualification is that I’m pleased with how Collio came together. After the gap since the previous post, it was good to get to that point.
